Work have a big fundraiser every year for United Way which supports charities in the local Boston area and this year as well as asking us to donate money they also asked for our help to build a playground a few blocks away from work for a local school.
8am seemed a bit of an early start but it was a true Boston day - cold but very very sunny - a perfect day to build planters, shovel 12 tonnes of mulch and see a playground miraculously appear. It was a great day and it felt so good to be giving back - especially to a school that has suffered so much heart ache. The school was shut down as it used to be owned and run by the Catholic church and after the horrible child abuse events the church sold all their school. This school was reborn by the parents and it has survived but barely. The children up until this week were walking to another part of town just to play.... imagine....
Not any more though!! Now they get to play in an amazing playground just in front of their school!
